How long is a basketball game?
|
Highschool games are 8-min quarters, college games are 20-min halves, NBA games are 12-min quarters.

When can a player be subsituted?
|
When there is a foul, time-out, or the ball goes out of bounds.

Point guard
|
Usually the best ball-handler on the court, they are responsible for bringing the ball up the court and starting the team's offensive attack.

Shooting guard
|
Usually the team's best shooter from outside the court, but they can also dribble the ball with proficiency and must play good defense.

Small forward
|
This player is good at shooting both close to the basket and from a moderate distance. They are usually taller than a guard, can rebound the ball well, and are very versatile.

Power forward
|
This player plays primarily underneath the basket both on offense and on defense. They are proficient at scoring underneath the basket, rebounding, and playing defense.

Center
|
This player usually the tallest member of the team. They play inside most of the time and can easily block shots with their arms when opposing team players try to shoot close to the basket.

What is a violation?
|
Breaking the rules of basketball. Violations are not committed against other players.

Traveling
|
A player runs or walks without dribbling, or takes more than 2 steps after picking up the dribble on a lay-up.

Double dribble
|
A player dribbles with both hands on the ball at the same time or dribbles the ball legally, picks it up with both hands, and then dribbles it again.

3-second violation
|
An offensive player stays inside the lane (rectangle in front of the basket) for three seconds. A player can avoid a three-second violation by placing at least one foot outside the lane. They can then stay in the lane for another three seconds.

5-second violation
|
A player takes more than 5 seconds to pass the ball back in bounds.
