Why do we have a leap year?
Because a year is 365 days and 6 hrs. Every 4 yrs, these extra hours add up to an extra day.so we have an extra day every 4 yrs, to keep up with the time.

Imaginary carpet in both the sun and earth. Earth rolls around on the ecliptic plane.

The axis is not 90 degrees to the ecliptic plane, but pushed over a little.
