AGE DISTRIBUTION
- Percentage of the total population, or the population of each sex, at each age level.
- It is used to see how many males and females there are in a population that are in age groups of five.It is used everywhere around the world.
- Example: The United States has a huge amount of young and middle aged people, but have a lower amount of old people.
Agricultural Density
- The ratio of the number of farmers to the amount of arable land.
- If you have a high agricultural density, then that means you have lots of workers, but not as much land to farm.If you have a low agricultural density, then you could have a lot of workers and more land to farm which can make you more money.
- Example: The agricultural density of the United States is around 2.25.
ARITHMETIC DENSITY
- The total number of people divided by the total land area
- Countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe have high arithmetic densities.South American countries, North American countries, African countries, Australia and North Asia have small arithmetic densities.
- Example: From 2009-2012 the U.S has had an agricultural density of 34.
- A conference in Cairo, Egypt where politicians came together and discussed the progress of the war against Japan and the future of Asia.
- It was attended by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Chinese President, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. This occurred in 1943.
- Example: These three men got together and discussed the future of Asia, and the war against Japan.
CAIRO CONFERENCE
- The largest number of people that the environment of a particular area can support.
- This has to do with over population because there are not enough resources for everybody if the area is over populated.
Example: This occasionally happens to animals because over population leads to competition and many of them die from it.
CARRYING CAPACITY
- A period count of the population.
- An area delineated by the United States bureau of the census for which statistics are published. These are mostly corresponded to neighborhoods.
- Example: A census has intent to count everyone in a population rather than a fraction.
CENSUS
- Number of deaths per thousand children within the first five years of life.
- A high child mortality rate is bad for a population because it means that you’re decreasing in population, and that these children are in need of resources.A low mortality rate is good because your population is increasing at a good rate and the children are getting the things they need.
- Example: The United States has a child mortality rate of 7 which is a good thing. Some countries in Africa have really high mortality rate which is a bad thing.
CHILD MORTALITY RATE
- The ways that people prevent pregnancies.
- These ways include diaphragms, condoms, drugs, or surgery. Many people take these because they might not want a kid or their not ready for one yet.
- Example: Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa have many women that don’t want to have so many kids and they try to prevent their pregnancy.
CONTRACEPTION
- A futurist who believes that continued progress and provision of resources for mankind can be met by similarly continued advances in technology.
- They believe that there is enough matter and energy on the Earth to provide for the ever-rising population of the world. They are totally different from Neo-Malthusians.
- Example: They are not entirely true because we will eventually run out of fossil fuels and over population can also hurt resources.
CORNUCOPIANS
- The number of deaths per year per 1,000 people.
- A high CDR means that you are either in stage one or two.A low CDR means that you are either in stage three, four, or five.
- Example: The United States and the UK have low CDR rates, while Countries in the Middle East and Africa are the opposite.
CRUDE DEATH RATE
- The total number of live births in a year for every 1000 people alive in the society.
- A high CBR means you are in stage one or two.A low CBR means that you could be in stage four or five.
- Example: Japan is in stage five meaning that their CBR is going under, or is less than, their CDR.
CRUDE BIRTH RATE
- An equation that summarizes the amount of growth or decline in a population during a certain period of time.
- Also, taking into account net migration and natural increase. It is used to find out how fast a population has been increasing or decreasing.
- Example: Countries use these equations to see how their doing in growth.
DEMOGRAPHIC EQUATION
- The from high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates as a country develops from a pre-industrial to an industrialized economic system.
- This produces a huge net population gain. The demographic transition model shows the steps through which a society progresses.
- Example: The model shows the five different stages in which countries progress in.
DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION
- The scientific study of population characteristics.
- This includes births, deaths, income, or the incidence of disease.Biologists study these when they talk about population of species, overcrowding, etc.
- Example: The average age of a population may increase or decrease over time.
DEMOGRAPHY
- The amount of people in a society who can't work.
- The less people you have working, the less money you make.If you have many old people retiring, then you need younger workers to work.
- Example: Japan has a huge amount of old people who don’t work, but they don’t have any workers coming in because their isn’t as much as before. Now Japan is begging for a higher CBR so that they can make money and grow their population.
