What is this muscle? |
Trapezius
Trapezius origin and insertion?
Origin: occipital bone, ligamentum nuchae, spinous process of C7-T12Insertion: clavicle (lateral 1/3), Acromion, spine of scapula
Trapezius innervation and blood supply?
Innervation: Cranial Nerve XI (Spinal Accessory Nerve)- motor. C3, C4 (ventral primary rami) - pain and proprioceptionBlood Supply - Superficial branch of the Transverse Cervical Artery (located on the deep surface of the muscle.
What is the action of the Trapezius?
Holds upper limb to trunk, adduts (retract) scapula (middle fibers), raises scapula (upper fibers), depresses scapula (lower fibers), rotates scapula so that the inferior angle is moved laterally for abduction of the upper limb above horizontal position.
Nerve injury to the Trapezius would cause what?
Drooping of the scapula. To test, shrug shoulder against resistance.
What muscle is this? |
Latissimus dorsi
Origin and insertion of Latissimus Dorsi?
Origin- spinous process of lower six thoracic vertebrae (T7-T12), thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and lower 3 or 4 ribs.Insertion- Humerous (intertubercular groove)
Innervation and blood supply to Latissimus Dorsi?
Innervation- Thoracodorsal nerve (C6-8 level of spinal cord from Brachial Plexus)Blood Supply: Thoracodorsal Artery
What is the action of Latissimus Dorsi?
It pulls the arm posteriorly (extends arm) and rotates medially. Used in chopping wood and swimming. It adducts, extends and medially rotates the humerous at the shoulder joint. Along with pectoralis major, it is a powerful adductor of arm.
What would happen in nerve injury to the Latissimus Dorsi?
Unable to raise the trunk with the upper limbs during climbing.
What are the borders of the Triangle of Auscultation?
1) Lateral border of the Trapezius2) Superior border of the Latissimus Dorsi3) Medial border of the Scapula
What muscle is this? |
Levator Scapulae
Name the origin and insertion of Levator Scapulae
Origin: transverse processes of C1-C3/4Insertion- superior angle of the scapula and along its upper medial border
Name innervation and blood supply of Levator Scapule.
Innervation: Dorsal Scapular Nerve (C5) and 3rd and 4th cervical nerves.Blood Supply Dorsal scapular artery (branch of axillary artery)
What is the action of Levator Scapule?
Elevates scapula, rotates scapula to move the glenoid cavity and shoulder joint inferiorly.
