JD, ascertain if there
are any candidates in waiting, if so, their names and for what degree.
|
WM:--Brethren, There are candidates in
waiting for the 3rd degree of Masonry, having made suitable
proficiency in the preceding degrees, if there is no objection, I shall confer
the degree upon him/them. (Pause) There being no objection, I will proceed.
|
(o) Bro Sr & Jr
Stewards: How should a
fellowcraft be prepared for the 3rd degree of masonry?
WM:--Return to the preparation room, where the candidates are in waiting, and when thus prepared, cause them to make the usual alarm at the inner door. |
WM: Bro SD
WM: Attend to the alarm and ascertain the cause. WM--Is it an act of their own free-will and accord? |
WM: Are they worthy and well qualified?
WM:--Duly and truly prepared WM:--Have they made suitable proficiency in the preceding degree? |
WM:--By
what further right or benefit do they expect to obtain this important privilege?
|
WM:--Has
he the password?
WM:--Advance, and give it me |
The SD conducts the
candidate(s), followed by the stewards, three times around the Lodge, during
which time theWM reads
the following passage of Scripture:
|
"Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy
youth, while the evil days come not, SW ( o) nor the
years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them: while the
sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars be not darkened, nor the clouds
return after the rain; WM ( o )
|
WM ( o ) in the day when the keepers of
the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves,
JW ( o ) and the grinders cease, because they are few; and those that look out of the windows be darkened, and the doors shall be shut in the streets, |
SW ( o) when the sound of the grinding
is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of
music shall be brought low.
WM ( oo ) Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, |
JW ( oo ) and the almond-tree shall
flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail;
SW ( oo) because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets; or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken at the fountain, or the wheel at the cistern. |
WM ( ooo ) Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God, who gave it."
(At his station in the south, on the 3rd round, when they halt) JW: Who comes here? |
WM: From
whence came you, and whither are you travelling?
WM--Why leave you the west, and travel toward the east! WM:--Since the Brother is in possession of all the necessary qualifications, and in search of further light in masonry, reconduct he/them to the SW the west, |
who will teach him/them how to approach the east, in due and ancient form.
SW:--WM WM:--Bro SW SW:--The brother’s are in order |
WM: Candidates, before you can
practice further in masonry, it will be necessary for you to take a solemn obligation
accepting the 3rd degree of a MM; and I, Master of this Lodge assure
you that there is nothing therein contained that will conflict with your duty
to God, your neighbor, or yourself. Are you willing to take this obligation?

both hands resting on the Holy Bible Square & Compass
